Online Proctoring with Proctorio

Proctorio is an online proctoring service that allows students to take exams online while ensuring the integrity of the exam for the institution. The service provides multiple options for instructors to ensure test integrity. Depending on instructor’s settings, among other security measures Proctorio will

​

  • Authenticate the test taker’s identity to ensure that the person being monitored is the correct student.

    • If used, students are encouraged to use their Pellissippi ID rather than a government issued ID but government IDs are acceptable.

  • Record the test taker via a webcam. Recordings of the student taking the test are available within the LMS.

  • Indicate on the recording where misconduct may have occurred. Based on the recording, the instructor determines if academic misconduct occurred.

 

If needed, instructors can select to bypass Proctorio proctoring for individual students.

Unlike the Pellissippi Testing Centers, Proctorio is available 24/7. Testing does not need to be scheduled

The College is providing online proctoring with Proctorio at no charge to students.

  • No additional logins

Enable Proctorio in Your Brightspace Course

1.) Navigate to the course in which you’d like to enable Proctorio, then go to the Content page

2.) Select the FIRST module in Content, then select Existing Activities -> External Learning Tools

​

Note: The Secure Exam Proctor item must be located in the first module of Content. This content item must also remain visible to students. Both of these precautions ensure that the tool will initiate properly. 

3.) Find Secure Exam Proctor in the list of tools and click on it to add it to the Content page

4.) Once the Secure Exam Proctor tool is in your module, click on it to open the tool

5.) Proctorio will prompt you first to ensure you’re using Google Chrome. From here, click on the link under step 2 to install the Chrome extension

6.) You will be taken to another similar page, where you should select click here under step 2.

7.) Once the extension is installed, return to Brightspace and refresh the page. You will see a message stating, “Secure Exam Proctor Plugin Successfully Installed! Please return to your course.”

Please note: Once you’ve installed this extension, the “Secure Exam Proctor” item will remain visible to instructors but will be hidden from students.
