How to Release Final Grades

This guide will show how to release final grades manually or automatically and how to update inaccurate final grades.

Creating Extra Credit Grade Items

In Brightspace, there are two ways that extra credit points can be assigned: 1) create a bonus item in the gradebook, or 2) allow a grade item to exceed the maximum number of points.

**Regardless of which method you use, you will also need to change settings in the Grade Item Category (if using a category) and Current Grade to allow for the final grade to exceed 100%.

Drop Lowest Grade in a Category

If you have a collection of assignments that are all worth the same number of points (for example, six homework assignments all worth 10 points), Brightspace allows you to set up the gradebook to automatically drop the lowest score for each student. We do this by placing these assignments in a category in the gradebook.

Create Rubrics

Brightspace allows you to create a grading rubric that can be attached to an Assignment, Grade Item, or other assessed items. We suggest creating your rubric ahead of time on paper, and then entering your criteria into Brightspace.

Associate Rubric with Activity

Once you have created a rubric for an activity in Brightspace, you need to associate it with the appropriate Assignment or Discussion.

Copy Grade Schemes

If you have created a custom grade scheme in one course, you are able to import that scheme to another course. This is not the same process as importing other components of Brightspace, so we will outline the steps below.
