Option 1:
Using Discussion Boards to Assess Student Learning in Asynchronous Courses
Presenter: Leslie Coffman
This session will chronicle the effectiveness of using discussion boards as high stakes assignments in asynchronous courses. Participants will follow one instructor's journey of using discussion boards in Early U.S. History courses to increase student engagement and success and then brainstorm how they might implement discussion boards more effectively in their own courses.
Option 2:
Building Relationships and Student Engagement in a Virtual Environment
Presenters: Jasmine Floyd
Virtual learning can pose challenges for building teacher and student relationships and keeping students engaged in their learning. Discover ways to address those challenges and create a virtual learning environment that promotes student growth. Participants will leave with strategies and tech tools they can implement right away to boost student engagement and foster classroom relationships.
Option 3:
Promoting Active Reading with Collaborative Online Annotation: Going Beyond the Discussion Board
Presenter: Charity Davenport
In this presentation, attendees will learn about collaborative online annotation and how it can benefit students and promote active learning in face-to-face and online contexts. Collaborative online annotation tools can be used to add comments on websites, videos, or text documents that can only be seen by other classmates, and classmates and instructors can reply to each other’s comments, making reading more interactive, social, and engaging (Dean, 2019). The presenter will give a basic overview of how most online annotation tools work and examples of different ways collaborative online annotation can be used in courses. Time will be given for attendees to experience annotating an online document while also discussing possible ways to incorporate collaborative online annotation into their courses. Finally, attendees will be given the resources they need to get started using annotation tools with their students.
Option 4:
Rethinking Assessment
Presenter: Melissa Newman, Darlene Davenport
Learn to design assessments that work across learning environments to measure student success based on what they know and can do. Interim, formative assessments should mimic and build toward success on summative assessments. Participants will create frameworks for common, collaboratively-designed, performance-based, vertically aligned assessment progressions in order to apply student work protocols for calibrating with rubrics to make sound instructional decisions.

Managing your Online Courses
Presenter: Walter McCord
How to use tools such as Evernote and Clipmate to effectively manage online courses.
